Exciting Season Ahead for Performing Arts at Iowa: Musicals, Lectures, Concerts, and More!

As the fall season approaches, Performing Arts at Iowa is gearing up for an exciting lineup of events that are sure to captivate audiences of all ages. From musicals to lectures, concerts to recitals, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the 2024-25 schedule.

Hancher Auditorium, School of Music, Department of Dance, and Department of Theatre Arts are all set to host a variety of exhibitions that showcase the talent and creativity of artists from around the world. Aaron Greenwald, the Programming and Engagement Director of Hancher Auditorium, is dedicated to bringing exceptional artists to the campus and the community to create memorable experiences for all who attend.

One event not to be missed is a musical residency from conductor, author, and percussionist Steven Schick. This unique performance will take place in City Park and feature 99 percussionists spread out across the park, creating a one-of-a-kind musical experience that is free for the public to enjoy.

In addition to this, former acting solicitor general of the U.S. and Georgetown law professor Neal Katyal will be giving a lecture as part of the University of Iowa’s Fall 2024 Levitt Lecture series. The 2024 Infinite Dream Festival, running from Sept. 24-28, will also be a highlight of Hancher’s season, exploring the theme of what it means to be American through various artistic mediums.

Hancher’s Broadway series, concerts, and orchestras will fill out the rest of the auditorium’s calendar, while Club Hancher will offer a more intimate setting for performances by comedians and poets. The Department of Dance, School of Music, and Department of Theatre Arts will also have their own exciting events throughout the season, showcasing the diverse talents of the performers and artists involved.

As Greenwald emphasizes, the performing arts play a significant role in the Iowa City community, and he is grateful to be a part of an environment where creativity and expression are valued. So mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and come out to support Performing Arts at Iowa as they bring a season of unforgettable performances to life.
