Exploring AI’s Evolving Role in Software Development with Aju Mathew

Are you curious about how generative AI is changing the landscape of software development? Look no further! In a recent interview with Aju Mathew, Vice President of Software Engineering at Aspire Systems, we delved into the current trends and practices in AI-based software development, as well as the future potential of AI in creating software.

According to Mathew, many companies are starting to dip their toes into the waters of generative AI, using it for small proof-of-concept projects or providing basic guidelines for employee usage. However, as the technology continues to evolve, he believes that AI’s role in software development will be enormous.

One of the ways companies are currently leveraging AI in software development is by using generative AI programs to gain insights and feedback for new software projects. This includes competitive analysis and market positioning, which can help inform the development process.

Looking ahead, Mathew envisions a future where generative AI can generate entire application and deployment architectures based on technical inputs and parameters. This may involve using techniques like prompt chaining, where developers provide a chain of prompts to the AI tool to speed up the development process.

In fact, Mathew predicts that developers may eventually be able to create entire “epics” using AI. An epic in software development is a large body of work that can be broken down into smaller elements. By allowing generative AI platforms to consume business requirements documents or recordings of requirements discussions, companies could potentially generate entire epics with the right prompts and techniques.

While this level of AI-based development may not be easy to achieve, Mathew is confident that it is possible and doable with the right tweaks and advancements in the technology. As companies continue to explore the possibilities of generative AI in software development, the future looks bright for AI’s evolving role in the industry.
